Where’s Jesus when you need backup
I was apart of a discussion last night in where a client cancelled a contract with a wedding photographer because he noticed on his web site that he photographed a gay wedding. He was asking whether he should return the deposit as asked by the Father of the Bride. Most people understood the contract as being solid and perfect for this type of situation.
Someone of similar beliefs was expressing it would probably be best for the “greater good” as he might gain an un savory reputation. For what, equality? I pointed out that discrimination is illegal and “Saying someone supports or endorses homosexuality because they don’t discriminate against it is absurd”
What followed was the usual sophistry you find with someone who’s world view comes? a closed loop. He was entitled to his beliefs and I was trying to project my beliefs onto him. The rule of law is not a belief. Equality is a right enshrined in every social contract we adhere to as a civilized people.
This kind of retarded thinking is becoming epidemic on cable news. “If someone breaks into your house with a knife to rob you and you pull out a gun, does he have the right to defend himself?” At no point in the confrontation is the intruder in a defensive position, he is the aggressor. This absurd kind of logic is seen by Nations today and it’s dripped down into the general public like a loose bowel. Debating a subject with people like this is like arguing with a three year old. If they get stuck on a logical point they fall back on “Well that’s my belief and I have a right to express it”
There are two parts to reading, understanding the words and comprehension of the subject. A religious text is useless without the second ability. IE: If your VCR is flashing 12:00 continuously you probably shouldn’t pick up the Bible, it’s much more complex than programming your VCR.
You can read the bible as many times as you like, but you only have to understand it once.

Good points and I’m going to steal that last line. Itll come in handy.
Dam just showed me this one. You need to talk to some of the people I work with. I get frustrated and walk away. I’m off to read the 911 now.
Steal way Frank.
I still find myself in those conversations, although thankfully my instincts to hit the backspace key are getting stronger. Being an atheist it’s really quite simple, I think What would Jesus do and the rest takes care of itself. Ain’t it ironic.
Ugh, I read this again this morning. I can’t believe there are still people who can’t accept gay people, black people, tattooed people. Frank kicked a man out of the studio who started yelling about god. The same week we had a wonderful little old lady from Sussex who thought the work was so beautiful. He ran across the street and bought her flowers and made her some tea. She loved the gay boys and their “dandy” clothes at the parade. Her view was “well everybody has to live don’t they” I liked the way she said that. It was so simple but encompassed so much. 86 years old and a kinder more tolerant person I’ve never met.
Thank you for standing up!
Thanks for the support Lawrence.
