Gruen 510RSS Update

Author: Finished and a new daily wearer. The stem is cut long until I find a Gruen crown proper to the period but overall a handsome wristwatch. So far a few people have asked to see it which is typical of any Gruen model.
99% Finished and on the wrist as a Daily wearer
Another in my Gruen case is this mint condition 34mm I just finished cleaning and restoring. As you can see the crown doesn’t match, a new stem and crown are on order and should be here in a few weeks. The stem was broken torquing on the back to get it unscrewed which was a blessing in disguise. It kept people out of the movement which is also in mint condition. Only my Wylers are as clean inside as this one.
I’ll update this shot when the new stem and crown are installed.
Gruen 510RSS Automatic movement
The surprise has been this watch is keeping way better time than it should be. It has been running within a daily variation of +- 10 seconds. I was expecting around a minute so I’m pleased with the purchase.
The cleanest I've seen on a nearly a sixty year old watch
An identical model was purchased online with a very bad case, but the movement and dial are identical apart from finishing. Another gold cased explorer dial model has also been purchased to use some of the spare movement parts in.

It looks brand new Rob. Why do some look bashed up and some look new?
This one looks like it was thrown into a drawer and left for years. The case and crystal were scratched up so I gave both a light sanding and polish. Most dials are faded from sun damage which degrades the lacquer over the paint causing the discolouration. I have an identical parts watch being shipped in a few weeks and I’ll take shots of them side by side to show the difference.
