Mondia Stellaris 30

Mondia Stellaris 30 jewel Automatic

Mondia Stellaris 30 jewel Automatic

Made by the Mondia-Zenith-Movado group It’s a bit of a mess on the dial side so it will probably take months to get the parts together before it’s running like it’s supposed to, but it’s keeping time and running strong. After some cleaning and lubrication I removed the dial for cleaning and noticed some parts missing and unusual repairs. The movement is an A. Shild 1709

Broken gear repair and a spring to nowhere...

The escapement side isn’t too bad or at least surprising but when you remove the dial you see the results of drinking and a game of truth or dare. It looks like Big Birds foot and I’ll bet you twenty bucks he broke the gear staking the day wheel. I’ll replace the spring and the badly staked day wheel gear if I can find the parts and cover the rest of the mess up. All in all not really a big job to bring back to the makers intentions, just a good example of the variety or problems you can encounter.

Update: With the new stem installed and wound the watch is keeping excellent time so far.

Parts needed:

Winding stem Thanks Vacheron, Netherlands
Dial screws
Case screws
Rotor part

  • Shafir:

Is that one of the larger Shild movements? It looks pretty large but I’m judging by the day dial.

  • Hi Shaf,
It is a larger movement 13.5 ligne (I think) I try and keep uncasing to a minimum as it’s missing a dial screw and any jarring results in having to re apply the hands.

The case is 38mm at full width.

  • It’s 11.5, I got it confused with the Mido 1147 which is based on an AS 1831. Although the 1831 is also 11.5. I’m guessing the rotor makes the extra 2 ligne.
